Paratha is an Indian flat bread. There are a ton of variations and this version is stuffed with peas. Stuffed parathas are a filling dish and taste great. Off to the recipe.
Peas Paratha
Indian flat bread stuffed with peas.
Ingredients:
- For Dough
- whole wheat flour - 2 1/2 cups
- salt - to taste
- water - as needed
- oil - 2 tsp + as needed for making the parathas
- For Filling
- pottukadalai - 2 tbsp (powdered)
- peas - 2 cups (I used frozen)
- green chilly - 2 (adjust to taste)
- ginger - a small piece
- oil - 1 tsp
- cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
- salt - to taste
- turmeric - a pinch
- cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
Instructions:
Make a dough with the ingredients under "For Dough". Let it rest for about 30 minutes.
Powder the pottukadalai and keep aside. Thaw the frozen peas and blend along with chilly and ginger.
Heat oil and add cumin seeds. Add the peas paste, pottukadalai powder, salt, turmeric and cumin powder. Saute for about 5 minutes. Allow to cool and make small balls of the mixture.
Pinch balls off the dough and roll into a circle. Place the mixture on it. Pinch edges to seal. Roll out again.
Heat a tawa and place the rolled paratha. After a few seconds flip it. Add a tsp of oil around the edges. Flip again after 30 seconds or so. Drizzle a tsp of oil again. When both sides are golden brown remove from tawa. Serve with pickle.
