Day 4 of the blogging marathon and this is my second recipe with spinach for the week.
Keerai masiyal is basically mashed greens. In olden days I have seen my grandma use a special wooden churner to mash greens once it is cooked. The consistency of the resulting masiyal would be perfect and not too mushy. I use the hand blender and I am able to control it better as compared to the big blender. This masiyal is often paired with vegetable kurma by my mom and we loved that combo.
Now this has to be by far the easiest recipe I have blogged so far. But don’t be fooled by its simplicity as it is packed with nutrients from spinach and garlic. This is always on the menu if I have fresh spinach at home and if you are garlic lover, then this is for you. So off to the recipe.
Ingredients
6 cups spinach packed
10 cloves garlic
4 green chillies
1 small onion
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
Method
There is really nothing much to this recipe. Boil the spinach, garlic, green chillies and onion along with salt.
Turn off the stove when the spinach, garlic and onion are cooked.
Allow to cool and take in a blender or use a hand blender and mash coarsely. You should be able to see tiny bits of garlic in the masiyal. Season with mustard seeds.
That is it. Spinach masial ready. The goodness of garlic in every bite along with the spinach makes this a satisfying and healthy meal. We had it with rice, papad and potato fry.
Enjoy!

Yes I know, many a times we don;t post these simple dishes wondering what is there to tell or share about it? But then there's the catch. Like I never knew about it. Just wanted to ask how it would be different from a chutney?
