Daikon fry is for Day 4 of the blogging marathon. No, I am not making up the name and that is what it is called in the stores here . The first time I looked at it I did not relate it to radish because they were pretty long and some were fat too. But my friend told me that it is mullangi indeed. Still skeptic, but out of necessity due to the limited veggies I get in my area, I decided to try out the daikon or radish or mullangi.
Well, it tasted exactly like mullangi and what a relief that was. After making the usual sambar all the time, I realized it was time to try something else. Radish is a veggie that does not have a whole lot of flavor on its own and the idea of a fry was not exciting until my mom suggested I pair it with peanuts. Now, we eat peanuts by the bag and I immediately jumped on it and the fry tasted delicious.
This is the first time I am posting a picture of a basic South Indian Thali. Although our day to day meals include rice, sambar/kuzhambu, rasam, veggie fry and sometimes kootu I have never tried to assemble them together due to lack of time. I also had payasam and kootu in mind for this thali, but could not get to it. So the items in thali include rice with some dal on it, drumstick sambar, milagu rasam, this fry, spinach poriyal, yogurt, pickle and papad. I normally make the papad in the microwave rather than deep frying. Off to the recipe of radish fry.
