Cherry Tomato Dal (Lentils)

Another simple side dish that goes well with rice/flat bread. Cherry tomatoes were in abundance in the house and the usual salads sounded boring. This dish was a welcome change to finish up the tomatoes. It is simple to make and the cherry tomatoes impart a mild sweetness and a nice flavor to the dal. Off to the recipe.

Tasty and healthy side dish with cherry tomatoes.
Cook toor dal with turmeric and keep aside.
Heat oil and splutter mustard seeds. Add urad dal. When dal turns golden brown, add asafoetida, curry leaves, onion and green chillies.
When onions are cooked add tomatoes and salt. Wait till the tomatoes become mushy. Add the tomato mixture to the cooked dal. Mix and serve with rice / roti.

5. Onions are cooked.
6. Add the tomatoes and salt.
7. Wait until the tomatoes become mushy.
8. Add the tomato mixture to the cooked dal.
9. Mix and serve with rice / roti.
