Celery Kootu (Celery Lentil Gravy)

My comfort food is always rasam with any kind of kootu. Only recently we started buying celery and although I am not fond of eating it raw, we love it in cooked dishes like this one and stir fry. There are various variations to kootu and most of the time I prepare this kootu podi in bulk and add it to the vegetables and dal. This takes the blending step away and makes the preparation much easier for week nights. You can have kootu with rice or roti. Off to the recipe.

Gravy with celery and lentils.
Cook celery and dal together. Grind the ingredients for masala.
Heat oil and season with mustard seeds. Add the celery-dal mixture and masala; simmer on a low flame for few minutes. Serve with rice or roti.

3. Take cumin seeds, coconut and red chillies in a blender.
4. Blend well.
