This is a guest post for Anu of Anuz Healthy Kitchen. Anu has started a new series called “How To’s? of Kitchen” wherein the basics of kitchen and some recipes using the basics are showcased. I am excited to be part of the series as I feel that knowing the basics help a lot in cooking. So for the basic recipe, I have chosen ghee that is used a lot in desserts to impart that rich aroma and taste. It is also used in savory dishes like oma podi and so on. Anu has already posted paneer to kick start the series. Do check it out friends.
Payasam or Kheer is a traditional Indian dessert that is served in weddings, made for festivals and so on. It is the simplest of Indian desserts that can be whipped up in a jiffy. You can replace oats with vermicelli if needed and also chop the apple finely instead of grating. Off to the recipe.

Dessert with apples, oats and milk.

Homemade ghee can be made following this link
Roast oats in a tsp of ghee and keep aside. Next roast the cashews and raisins in a little ghee and keep aside.
To the same pan add the grated apple, oats and milk. When the oats and apples are cooked, add the sugar and mix. Finally add cardamom powder and the roasted nuts and serve.
