Day 5 of the 10th edition of blogging marathon and my theme is “Guilt Free Snacks”. Everybody loves potato chips right? How about making it healthy to enjoy it guilt free? My memory of potato chips go way back to childhood where we used to watch with excitement when my mom made potato chips at home. The mildly salted crunchy chips was always a winner.
After coming to the US, I did not have to fry them at home due to the easy availability of chips in huge bags :) . Although we mainly used the chips as a side dish I wanted to try out healthier alternatives. That is how the baking of potato slices started. This is totally guilt free with no compromise in taste. You can slice the potatoes thin or thick and vary the baking time accordingly. I sliced it very thin and they baked pretty fast. Off to the recipe.

Ingredients
Potatoes (I used russet potatoes which are big and easy to slice)
Salt to taste
Chilly powder / Pepper
1/2 tsp olive oil
Oil to spray

Method
Preheat oven to 400F.

Slice the potatoes. I have used a mandolin slicer to get uniform thin slices.

Add salt to the potatoes.

Add chilli powder.

Add olive oil. Toss well to get the oil coated. Use your hands to avoid the slices from breaking.

Spray a baking sheet and arrange the slices over it. Spray again on top. Place in a 400F preheated oven for 14-18 minutes until the slices get crispy.

Out of the oven. When I used just a single sheet it took 14 minutes. When I used two sheets simultaneously it took around 18 minutes. Keep an eye after 14 minutes to avoid the slices from becoming black.

I also did another batch for kids using just salt and pepper. For this, arrange the slices on a sprayed baking sheet.

Sprinkle salt over the slices.

Sprinkle pepper over the slices. Bake as above. These were less hot and were suitable for kids.

Crunchy and guilt free potato chips ready. We had it as a side to our lunch.
Enjoy!
