Potato Kara Sev | Cooks JoyIt is the festival season in India and Diwali is fast approaching. During Diwali, lot of sweets and snacks are made and distributed to family and friends. It is the “Festival of Lights” and kids have fun lighting fire works. I have already posted the regular karasev here. This version enhances its flavor with potatoes and it is my son’s favorite. He did not care much for murukku, but kept asking for this since he likes spicy stuff. Make sure you mash the potatoes thoroughly or else it might be difficult to get the dough out of the press. Off to the recipe.

Potato Kara Sev

Tasty fritters made with flour, potatoes and spices.

If using peppercorns, powder it. Cook and mash the potatoes.

Make a dough using all the ingredients except oil. I did not use water because the moisture from the potatoes was enough.

Load the murukku press with dough. Heat oil and directly press the murukku maker over the oil and form a couple of circles. Do not overlap.

When the karasev turns golden brown, remove from fire. Drain on paper towels. When cooled store in air tight containers.

My Notes
I did not add water to the dough. If the dough looks crumbly after kneading thoroughly, add water by the teaspoonful and knead.

2 years ago: Fresh Mozzarella Salad

1. Powder the pepper corns. You can also use store bought pepper powder.2. Cook potatoes and mash thoroughly.3. Take all ingredients except oil and potatoes. Mix well.4. Add the mashed potatoes. 5. Mix well. Do not add water.6. After some kneading the dough comes together.7. You need a murukku press (similar to a cookie press). This is the disc I used for this snack.8. Load the murukku press with dough. Heat oil and directly press the murukku maker over the oil and form a couple of circles. Do not overlap.9. Karasev is ready when it is golden brown. The hissing sound also stops now. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
Yummy munchies ready.
