It is the festival season in India and Diwali is fast approaching. During Diwali, lot of sweets and snacks are made and distributed to family and friends. It is the “Festival of Lights” and kids have fun lighting fire works. I have already posted the regular karasev here. This version enhances its flavor with potatoes and it is my son’s favorite. He did not care much for murukku, but kept asking for this since he likes spicy stuff. Make sure you mash the potatoes thoroughly or else it might be difficult to get the dough out of the press. Off to the recipe.
Tasty fritters made with flour, potatoes and spices.
Homemade ghee can be made following this link
If using peppercorns, powder it. Cook and mash the potatoes.
Make a dough using all the ingredients except oil. I did not use water because the moisture from the potatoes was enough.
Load the murukku press with dough. Heat oil and directly press the murukku maker over the oil and form a couple of circles. Do not overlap.
When the karasev turns golden brown, remove from fire. Drain on paper towels. When cooled store in air tight containers.
