My mom used to make a poriyal (fry) with snake gourd that used to be my favorite. She used to powder pottukadalai and add it to the cooked vegetable. Since I do not get snake gourd here I used to make the same with capsicum and loved it too. Most of our dishes feature lentils in one form or the other and the pantry is always filled with lentils and spice mixes.
When I saw this recipe for a spicy powder I was immediately reminded of my childhood favorite. The ingredients sounded interesting and I made this fry with the powder (podi). You can make the podi in bulk and store in airtight containers and can whip up a ton of interesting dishes with it. If you do not like bell pepper, it is time to give it a try again using this interesting spice mix. Off to the recipe.
