Another recipe for Navaratri and sundal is basically a legume salad with tons of variations. If you want to jazz up the humble sundal a bit, then you have to try this. Normally onion and garlic are avoided on festival days and I have posted a few with no onion and garlic also that you check out here. This sundal served a dual purpose of being a snack and also as a dip for chapati. The spices added a ton of flavor and the sundal tasted great. 15 Bean Masala Sundal
Tasty salad with legumes.
Ingredients:
- For Masala
- green chilly - 2
- garlic - 2 cloves
- cloves - 2
- cinnamon - small piece
- coconut - 2 tsp
- fennel seeds - 1/4 tsp
- jaggery - 1 tsp
- For Sundal
- oil - 1.5 tsp
- mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
- urad dal - 1/2 tsp
- curry leaves - a few
- onion - 1 cup - chopped
- tomatoes - 1 cup - chopped
- legumes - 1 cup - soaked and cooked (15 bean mix)
- salt - to taste
- cilantro - for garnish
Instructions:
Soak beans overnight and cook. Take little water and masala ingredients in a blender and make a paste.
Heat oil and splutter mustard seeds. Add urad dal and curry leaves. When the dal turns golden brown add the onions.
When onions are cooked, add the paste and saute for 5 minutes. Next add tomatoes. When the tomatoes turn mushy, add the cooked beans and salt. Saute for a couple of minutes and turn the stove off. Garnish with cilantro.
