In my house there was no distinction between pulao, biriyani, fried rice and so on. My mom always called the one pot meal ‘vegetable biriyani’ and only in the past few years I knew that biriyani is prepared by layering vegetables and rice. And, this cumin flavored rice was never part of the menu .. does that surprise anyone?
. The first time I had homemade jeera rice was at my friend Shai’s place.
Normally I do not follow any recipe for jeera rice and I also add peas and carrots to this rice at times. I mentioned it casually to my buddy Shai and she immediately said that it becomes a pulao then . Oh the differences .. well, I certainly did not want to make her mad and decided to stick with the recipe this time. To be frank there is actually no recipe and it is just cooking rice folks. Just make sure you have a nice side to go with the rice. Off to the recipe.

what do you mean “soaked” rice?
thanks
Rice when soaked in water cooks faster. I meant to soak uncooked rice in water for 30 minutes.
Nice pictures, can be made with left over rice too, tastes great!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I too would loveto add peas etc but then I am told my pulao is tasteless.Love jeera rice though.
