I just noticed that this recipe has been in my drafts for more than 2 months. I made this dish and a couple more for the Sinful Delights event, but could not get around to posting. Well, better late than never and I finally present the colorful and kid-friendly poori. This will be an easy way to get kids to eat beetroot and you wont even know that it has beetroot in it. The yummy potato dish in the back will be posted soon too and is one of the easiest and tastiest side dishes I have come across.
It is the month of Holi and let us celebrate with colorful dishes. You could use just all purpose flour or a combination of wheat and all purpose flour like I did. Off to the recipe.
Ingredients
1 cup all purpose flour (maida)
1 cup wheat flour
1/2 tsp ajwain (optional)
Salt
2 tsp oil
1 beetroot steamed and pureed
Oil to deep fry
Method
Take the flours in a bowl. Add salt.
Add oil.
Add ajwain.
Take the steamed beetroot in a mixie/food processor and make a puree.
Add the puree to the flour mix.
Crumble first and then using water form a stiff dough.
Let the dough rest for 15 – 30 minutes.
Pinch a small portion of the dough and roll into a small poori.
Heat oil and add the rolled poori to the oil. The poori should rise in a few seconds. Using a spatula, push the poori into the oil and see it puff up.
Colorful pooris ready.
Enjoy!
