Seasoning cast iron – Self cleaning oven method
Posted By Vardhini On April 12, 2011 @ 11:55 pm In How to's | No Comments
After 2 yrs of use I found that the edges of my Lodge logic griddle were flaky although the middle was smooth. I used various tools for scrubbing the flaky part but I could not get it out. Researching how to re-season led me to a forum where people suggested the self cleaning oven method. I was skeptical at first but then decided to give it a try. Pretty simple method.
| Seasoning removed |
| First layer of seasoning |
4. Remove all dust and clean thoroughly. Apply a thin coating of crisco all over the griddle top and bottom and also the handle. An easy way to apply crisco is to slighty warm the pan up and use a paper towel to rub the crisco.
| Second layer of seasoning |
6. Get a second layer by following the same method. Notice the shine. It is still not going to be smooth. Only repeated usage will give that smooth surface.
